This paper includes descriptions of a new genus (Heterocystidia gen. nov) and its new type species (Heterocystidia utriculata sp. nov) within the family Mesophelliaceae. These have been described using a combination of morphological and molecular characters from specimens collected in Victoria and New South Wales, Australia.
