The original material of Themeda triandra Forssk. (collected by Forsskål in Yemen) has not been located, and probably never reached its destination at Copenhagen herbarium (C). In accordance with ICN Art. 9.8 and 9.16, the above Edinburgh specimen is here designated as neotype to fix the application of the name. It is consistent with the protologue description and with the current circumscription of this widespread, polymorphic species. Informal phrase names here included within Themeda triandra:

These informal phrase names (used for putative entities in the Pilbara region of Western Australia) are here treated as taxonomic synonyms of Themeda triandra Forssk. They fall within the morphological and geographical variation currently accepted for the species.
Themeda triandra is a highly variable, predominantly apomictic perennial grass distributed across Africa, tropical and subtropical Asia, and Australia. The designation of a neotype from Edinburgh stabilises the name in the absence of original material. The Western Australian phrase names listed above are considered conspecific pending further morphological, cytological or molecular study.
