A new species of peacock spider, Maratus alpinus sp. nov., is described from subalpine to alpine grassland in the Victorian Alps, south-eastern Australia. The species is assigned to the Maratus anomalus group on the basis of its genitalic structure and gross morphology, and is the first member of the group recorded from subalpine or alpine habitat. A key to males of all currently recognised species of the anomalus group is provided, along with a map of known records incorporating type locality data, research-grade iNaturalist records, and unpublished field observations.
