Seven miscellaneous new species of Hibbertia (Dilleniaceae) from Western Australia

K.R. Thiele

Abstract:

Seven miscellaneous new species in Hibbertia subgen. Hemistemma (Dilleniaceae) are described from south-western Western Australia: H. cleistophylla K.R.Thiele, H. fortunata K.R.Thiele, H. heterandra K.R.Thiele, H. lanigera K.R.Thiele, H. macfarlanei K.R.Thiele, H. odontion K.R.Thiele and H. sparsa K.R.Thiele. The new species are known from few collections (in some cases from only one), but are sufficiently distinct that they warrant formal naming to encourage further field work and conservation assessments. Most are from relatively remote areas where there is extensive habitat that has been poorly surveyed due to a paucity of tracks and hence limited access; they are likely to be more widepread than is currently known, though some may be localised.
