John Nielsen
My work as national vector coordinator focuses on managing mosquito vector risks at First Points of Entry into Australia. This requires sound understanding of both endemic and exotic mosquito vector taxonomy and diagnostics. As part of this work, I use my experience as a biosecurity diagnostician to verify the identity of suspected exotic mosquitoes detected through biosecurity work. I also use my interest in the taxonomy and biogeography of the swallowtail butterflies (Papilionidae) to aid biosecurity diagnostics, including for the invasive Lime Swallowtail complex (Papilio demoleus).
