I am Senior Curator of Corals at the Queensland Museum Network, based at the Museum of Tropical Queensland campus in Townsville, and a Senior Research Fellow at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University. My research is broadly focussed on the taxonomy, systematics, ecology and biogeography of reef corals, and I have conducted field work on reefs across the Indo-Pacific. I am have extensive experience in the application of new technology, such as Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, to survey little-known coral reefs living in deep water. My current research is focussed on understanding the taxonomic and functional diversity of coral reefs, particularly the hyperdiverse genus Acropora.
